As mayday is about to approach, my memory goes back to the Haymarket Riots in Chicago, which will also have an anniversary on May 4th.
Never forget... fuck those bourgeoisie bastards that took the lives of the innocent just because they didn't agree with them. Also, let this be a time to remember the importance of UNIONS, which aren't doing as good these days as they have done in the past. It's up to US to restore the power and benefits that they once had.
Viva la resistance!!!
Shawn and I are about two months away from moving back to Seattle and trust me, I couldn't be happier. I am NOT an Olympia fan because it doesn't offer me in general what I am used to. This includes things that I had when I lived in Chicago, but yet it also includes Washington DC, Virginia Beach, and Phoenix (which I miss all these dearly at times because of the unique things in general that all these places had to offer). I have made no friends out here in Oly in about a year, and I also am not a fan of the conservatives that live in the area, despite the fact that there are many liberals as well. I actually believe that the conservatives ruin "it" for everyone, whatever "it" may be.
I must say the liberals kick ass at times and that's a trait of Olympia that tends to be a positive one.
THINGS I WILL NOT MISS IN OLYMPIA WHEN I MOVE:
-Olympia PD and the various politicians who are responsible for the whole deal with Camp Quixote
-Conservative fucks
-Fort Lewis/Camp Murray/McChord Air Force Base
-Having the sticks within a 10 minute drive from my house
-Bayview/Ralph's Thriftway
-Capitol Mall (Westfield)
-The Eastside Tavern
-Clubside Cafe
-The Olympian
-The anti-Watada protesters and their USA flag-covered leather jackets (contradiction!!!!)
-Orca Books
-Our weird white trash/gang banger wannabe neighbors
-etc.
THINGS I WILL MISS IN OLYMPIA WHEN I MOVE:
-SPSCC and their mostly excellent staff
-Sage/Orion and their respective parents (with the exception of Holly, of course)
-Our neighbor's two kids, Taylor and Haley (very beautiful, intelligent child, no doubt)
-Archibald Sisters (kick ass place!!!!)
-The Bike Stand and Shawn's parents
-Tumwater Falls/the mansion by the brewery
-Skateland Olympia
-Westside Lanes
-Ben Moore's (GREAT Saturday breakfast)
-Otto's
-Angel's Thai Restaurant
-etc.
A grandma in New Zealand found a green condom in a McDonald's Happy Meal, according to Comcast.net .
Hey, it could have been worse. My ex told me his experience as a child in the southwest side of Chicago. Back in the day when people still shopped at Ford City Mall, his mom and aunt ordered him a burger at some restaurant that no longer exist.
(WARNING: the following content is not for the squeamish)
When they went to open it, a cockroach crawled out of it. Nasty, indeed.
Yes, the news is true. I am getting published!!!!!!!!!
My school, South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington published a literature/arts journal every year call the Percival Review. When they were filtering out which submissions should be in the journal and which should not, I was one of the people that helped. The entries that I reviewed, both in art and literature, were anonymous, of course (just have to mention that for obvious reasons).
Since I submitted a few items about a month and a half ago, I forgot about the entire deal. I have been really busy with other things like school and moving, so I had better things to worry about.
Today, my memory was refreshed.
I checked my email at one today after I got home from school and inside I found the email that told me that I was going to be published. It did not say what exactly was going to be published (I submitted five pieces overall), so I look forward to seeing how many as well as which submissions were picked.
I think that sums up how excited I am!!!
As you may know, I live in the state of Washington, which is a good thing if you are female and uninsured because you can get free birth control AND a free yearly check up at the OBGYN under what is known as "Take Charge." I personally have memories of going to the Planned Parenthood in Seattle (U-District) and picking up 3 or 4 birth control rings. Within the small paper bag these items were placed with, they were also joined by condoms, lube, and a couple packages of the"Plan B" pill.
If one did not know what "Plan B" is, it's basically a combination of pills that one would take after having unprotected sex or in any other time where there is a chance for pregnancy to occur. As far as I understand, the pill makes a woman get her period earlier. In return, if there is an egg that was fertilized, it will be prevented from implanting within the walls of the uterus.
Of course, "Plan B" has it's fans as well as it's foes. Many right-wingers do not like the pill, as they believe that it kills something (I use the word something because some of the individuals may believe it's a baby, a fetus, or whatever), or other various reasons. In Wisconsin, the pill is illegal while some pharmacies refuse to carry and fill the prescription, such as Ralph's Thriftway in Olympia. On the other hand, many people also support the pill because of the fact that they understand that even if protection is used, shit happens. Condoms break, semen belongs where it is not wanted, etc. Also, rape victims can also use "Plan B" in hopes that there will not be a child born out of the unfortunate circumstances that exist.
I personally support "Plan B" and I have 6 packages of "Plan B" in my closet within my bathroom. I honestly wish that I could give it to someone who needs it and for whatever reason can not get their hands on it. I have this sad feeling that takes over my being when I think that these pills can help a woman in their time of need, but yet I am unable to give them what they need. I'd love to find some way to do so, but this is not possible because of the fact that "Plan B" is by prescription only. Sad, indeed.
NOTE: I SUPPORT THE BAN ON RALPH'S THRIFTWAY AND BAYVIEW THRIFTWAY IN OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON. I REFUSE TO GIVE MONEY TO A COMPANY THAT DENIES PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE AND MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS. IF YOU BELIEVE IN WOMEN'S RIGHTS,
DO NOT SHOP AT THRIFTWAY!!!!
I can not make this shit up, even if I tried.
Today, a high school freshman took a Medieval mace to school and attacked her teacher with it. For those who do not know what I am talking about, here's a pic of a Medieval weapon that is similar, if not the same, as this student's weapon of choice for attacking her teacher:
One of the most shocking things about this story, other than the weapon, of course, is WHERE in Chicagoland it happened. This event took place NOT in Illinois, but in Indiana in a suburb that many Chicagoans would like to forget. This suburb is Gary. Yes, Gary, IN is where the attack took place. Gary isn't known for much other than being the birthplace of the Jackson 5, being extremely poor thanks to the closing of many of the blue-collar businesses such as Steel and Iron, and Gary is also known for being ranked on many occasions to be the most dangerous location in the USA. Maybe they will be known for something else now.
For those wanting to read the story for themselves, here is a link to Chicago's CBS affiliate, CBS 2 (or 3 if you live in the city of Chicago).
Of course, everyone has heard of the mail order bride, but with technology booming, the internet is playing a significant part in the lives of some very lucky lovers. Personally, off the top of my head I can think of at least 3 couples that met VIA the internet, which include:
- My ex-friend Johnny from Chicago's widowed Catholic school teacher mom and her Californian biker husband;
- My ex-boyfriend Paul from Washington DC and his head of a corporation, money making, and cancer survivor girlfriend
-AND-
3. Shawn and I
Yes, the rumor is true. Shawn and I met over the internet and somehow all of this craziness worked out for the better for both of us.
I must be honest and say that I usually don't admit this fact because I'm somewhat embarrassed and I'm also concerned what the other person in the conversation will say.
For the record, our story is as follows:
I was doing PR work for Paddy Rock Radio when I started to become active on a board on Myspace. That is where Shawn and I met. Soon, we "fell in love", and he flew me out to Seattle from Chicago and told me if I wanted to go back home, I could. Yes, Shawn paid for the ticket and what can one say about a free trip 2,000 miles? Yeah, it was pretty cool.
Of course, I stayed and a year and a half later, we live in a house in Tumwater, Washington. He is about to graduate and get his MA while I am about to graduate and get my AA. We are currently planning to move back to Seattle (YES!!!) and get married sometime.
Yes, I am honestly shocked that this whole crazy thing worked out, but who really cares??? What's done is done.... and I'm a million times happier and healthier than I was before.
***UPDATE***
The person referred above in example #2 has contacted me. He wants it to be known that even though he is still with the woman he met on the internet, he's super miserable all the time and wants out, but is somewhat stuck. Kind of reminds me of Super Mario 3 when Mario would get stuck in the quicksand and then have one hell of a time getting out of it.
Sorry to hear about that, Paul!
